What a great way to kick off ‘Awesome August’. The ‘Toward For A Tenner’ race on Saturday put Dunoon back on the half marathon circuit with a bang! We had sun, we had rain, we had blustery gusts and we had over 200 runners pounding the road to Toward.
Massive congratulations to all the runners, but especially the winning female Gillian Palmer from Edinburgh Athletic Club who crossed the line in 1 hour and 21.53 seconds and winning male Donald McPartlin from Garscube Harriers who made it in 1 hour 16.32 seconds. We’d also like to congratulate all the youngsters who took part in the kids’ fun run.
Our aim was to make the half marathon day a real family event, and it was fantastic to see so many people turn out to join in the fun. The Astro Balls were a big hit. We reckon it’s the first time they’ve crossed the water to Dunoon and we hope to see them again soon. The Walking Theatre Company’s interactive theatre went down a storm, as did the face-painting and bouncy castle. The runners (and everyone else) loved the sweet treats from Chouxmakes Cakes and a crowd stayed on to enjoy to a pint of local Fyne Ale and a ceilidh in the marquee.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make it such a great day, including Cowal Physiotherapy for the post-race treatments.
We’re delighted to say that Toward For A Tenner will be an annual event. Next year’s race will take place on 6th August 2016, so you’ve got over a year to train! Entries for 2016 will open in the next few days on Entry Central.
And coming up soon in the blog, we’ve got tips from local runners on the best places to run in and around Dunoon. Watch this space…
