Wow! What a great time we had at the Dunoon Camp Enduro & Mini Race at the weekend. We always knew that Dunoon has some of Scotland’s best mountain biking right on its doorstep and now the secret’s well and truly out. Dunoon is firmly on the mountain bike map.
Saturday was all about practice and coaching, with some of the country’s top mountain bike coaches, including Dirt Vixens and Sick Skills, sharing their knowledge. Then Sunday was race day. The riders headed out to try out their new skills in the Bishop’s Glen area, just behind Dunoon, where members of the Cowal Mountain Bike Club, have developed some fantastic trails. The riders found plentiful flowing, natural single-track and some tricky descents to test their new skills. You can see the results here.
Why not take advantage of this fantastic sunny October weather and head out to Bishop’s Glen to try out the trail yourself? You can enter the forest from the top of Nelson Street, the bridge at the head of Auchamore Road, or Kilbride Road. For the more energetic, there’s a track leading on and upwards to the Bishop’s Seat. Explore Cowal is starting to map the trails here.
Other top places for mountain biking near Dunoon include Glenbranter, Ardgarten and Glenmassan. The Cowal Mountain Bike Club hosts a variety of rides each month, from beginner to advanced, and they’re happy for people to join them to show off the local trails.
